Flash Horton, born on a U.S. Air Force base in Frankfurt, Germany, and raised in a military family, has released a dynamic new project titled ‘The Streets EP’. With roots that span Augusta, GA, to Raleigh, NC, Flash’s musical journey began under diverse influences: his father’s love for Hip-Hop, Funk, and R&B; his mother’s immersion in classic R&B and gospel; and his sister’s taste for Neo-soul and alternative rock. By his teens, he was exploring even more genres, venturing into Crunk, Alternative, and Punk Rock.
Flash’s formal musical training started in high school, where he joined the marching band, ultimately becoming drumline captain and leading his team to four first-place finishes. In addition to honing his percussion skills, he began learning guitar, piano, and other instruments. His musical development continued at North Carolina A&T State University, where his involvement in the drumline introduced him to DJing. A spring break trip to Panama City Beach sparked his interest in electronic dance music, leading to a lifelong passion for sound exploration.
After college, Flash immersed himself in the world of DJing and production, building a name for himself at parties and clubs. His artistry now encompasses nearly every style of dance music, with electronic tracks that meld the influences of his youth with cutting-edge sounds. Recently, he had the honor of opening for Cosmic Gate at The Fruit in Durham, NC, showcasing his talents on a larger stage.
Flash’s new release, ‘The Streets EP’, follows the high-octane energy of his previous project, ‘Track’, which drew inspiration from race tracks. In contrast, ‘The Streets EP’ takes a more reflective tone, crafted for laid-back drives and introspective moments. The EP spans genres such as Deep House, Melodic Techno, Future Garage, and Disco House, creating a balanced contrast to Track’s fast pace. Each track embodies themes of self-reflection, love, and escape, with song titles that convey distinct moods and intentions.
Contributing to the EP’s depth, singer-songwriter Dafne Martinez lends her vocal talents to tracks like “Overtaking” and “Enchant,” infusing the project with emotion and resonance. Flash’s goal with ‘The Streets EP’ is to inspire listeners to embrace presence and balance, reminding them that music, much like life, is a journey of steady progression.
